October 14, 2021 Enforcement Committee Meeting Summary

Four members of the Enforcement Committee – Chair Gilmore, Commissioner Eisen, Commissioner Ranchod and Commissioner Vasquez – attended the virtual October 14, 2021, BCDC Enforcement Committee meeting.  The public was able to participate by submitting written comments by email prior to the meeting, by phone, or by accessing the meeting via a link posted on the Commission’s website. View only access was also provided via Facebook Live.

After approving prior meeting minutes, the Committee received an update on enforcement case resolution in 2021 with written updates for the second and third quarters and program improvement summaries for those quarters.  As of September 30, 2021, in the third quarter staff opened 37 new cases and closed 55 cases.  The total caseload is 113 cases, down 21 cases from the 134 caseload as of June 30, 2021.  Through standardized fines and civil penalties we have collected $142, 279 to date.  The Committee also received a written update and a briefing on the resolution of the cases opened before 2000 by Adrienne Klein. The final briefing was a compliance update from the City of Oakland on their ongoing work to restore Union Point Park consistent with the terms of the cease and desist order issued in October 2020.

The next meeting of the Enforcement Committee is scheduled to be held from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Wednesday October 27, 2021.  It is anticipated to also be an online-only virtual meeting with no physical location for attendees and participants to congregate.
