July 19, 2018 Commission Meeting Summary

19 members attended the July 19, 2018 BCDC meeting, which was held at the Metro Center Regional Headquarters Building in San Francisco.

Following a public hearing, the Commission voted 19-0-0 to approve an application by CalTrans to create public access piers at retained foundations of the east span of the former San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, and to remove two other marine foundations from the Bay via controlled blasting methods.  For details, contact Rebecca Coates-Muldoon.

The Commission voted 18-0-1 to support SB 1301 (Beall), AB 2864 (Limon), and AB 2441 (Frazier), currently under consideration in the State Legislature.  For details, contact Steve Goldbeck.

The Commission received briefings from Deborah Halberstadt of the Ocean Protection Council on its rising sea level science projections and guidance and outreach, BCDC’s staff on its new “Flood Explorer” rising sea level viewer, Jeremy Lowe of the San Francisco Estuary Institute on its “Operational Landscape Units” program, U.C. Berkeley Professor Mark Stacey on new hydrological mapping of the Bay, and from BCDC’s Adapting to Rising Tides Program staff.  For details, contact Larry Goldzband.
