November 3, 2011 Commission Meeting Summary

Twenty members attended the meeting, which was held at the Ferry Building in San Francisco.

The Commission held a public hearing and voted (19-0-0) to initiate the process of considering an amendment of the San Francisco Waterfront Special Area Plan to allow vessel berthing as part of the America’s Cup races. For details, contact Lindy Lowe (415/352-3642 lindyl@bcdc.ca.gov).

The Commission held a public hearing and voted (16-0-0) to issue a permit to the Port of San Francisco to construct a new public waterfront park at Brannan Street along the Embarcadero. For details, contact Ming Yeung (415/352-3616 mingy@bcdc.ca.gov).

The Commission held a public hearing on proposed revisions of the San Francisco Bay Plan port priority use designations at Hunters Point in San Francisco. The Commission received a briefing on the status of the development of a plan for the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta from Phil Isenberg, the chair of the Delta Stewardship Council. For details, contact Jessica Davenport (415/352-3660 jessicad@bcdc.ca.gov).

Penny Johnson is a new legal intern on BCDC’s staff. She has an undergraduate degree in communications from Cal State Chico and graduated with honors from Golden Gate University School of Law where she was Associate Editor of the Environmental Law Journal and worked in the Environmental Law and Justice Clinic. Will Travis is retiring as BCDC’s Executive Director and will become the One Bay Area Senior Policy Advisor where he will work with the Joint Policy Committee on formulating a regional climate change strategy. Members of the Commission are invited to join with BCDC’s representatives to the Joint Policy Committee at a special meeting in BCDC’s office from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, to discuss how best to advance the Bay Plan climate change amendments and the selection of a new Executive Director.
