June 2, 2011 Commission Meeting Summary
Twenty members attended the meeting, which was held at the Ferry Building in San Francisco.
The Commission held a public hearing on proposed amendments of the San Francisco Bay Plan and the Suisun Marsh Protection Plan to revise a priority use designation in the Collinsville area of Solano County. The Commission voted (20-0-0) to approve a contract with the Port of San Francisco to provide funding to BCDC for amending the San Francisco Waterfront Special Area Plan to accommodate America’s Cup events. For details, contact Lindy Lowe (415/352-3642 firstname.lastname@example.org).
The Commission held a public workshop to discuss the latest draft language for amending the Bay Plan to address climate change. Twenty speakers offered public comments, and the Commission expressed general satisfaction with the draft language but also provided additional direction to the staff on further language refinements. The staff will provide the Commission with an opportunity to review the refined language before it is incorporated into the fourth revised staff recommendation which will be released for public review July 29, 2011. The Association of Bay Area Governments has confirmed the appointment of Richmond city councilmember Tom Butt to serve as the alternate for Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates to represent East Bay cities on BCDC. For details, contact Will Travis (415/352-3653 email@example.com).
The Commission concurred in Chair Randolph’s appointment of Commissioner James McGrath as BCDC’s representative on the Harbor Safety Committee of the San Francisco Bay Region. The Commission concurred in the appointment of Ellen Miramontes as BCDC’s Bay Development Design Analyst. Ms. Miramontes received a bachelor of science in landscape architecture from the University of California, Davis and a master of landscape architecture and city planning from the University of California, Berkeley. She has nearly two decades of experience as a consultant and was a Bay Development Design Analyst at BCDC from 21001 t 2003. She replaces Brad McCrea who was promoted to be BCDC’s Regulatory Program Director six months ago. For details, contact Mamie Lai (415/352-3639 email@example.com.
Two new legal interns have joined BCDC’s staff. Both Sarah Foley and Kathryn Keller are second year law students at Hastings College of Law. Ms. Foley is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine where she studied water resource management. She has worked as a legal intern for the Orange County Counsel’s Office and as an investigator for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Ms. Keller received a Bachelor of Arts in literature from the University of California, Berkeley.
